Crown Point, IN - Morris Elite Baseball, based in Crown Point, IN has partnered with 5 Star National travel baseball organization out of Warner Robbins, GA establishing the first and only national affiliated travel baseball organization in Northwest Indiana. The organization will be known as 5 Star Great Lakes Chiefs. This provides local area baseball players the opportunity to play for a nationally recognized brand while still maintaining the local atmosphere of development.
In addition, 5 Star Great Lakes players will have national resources for recruiting and tournaments. Training and development will continue to be based in Crown Point, IN at The Winner’s Edge training facility (1075 Breuckman Dr, Crown Point, IN) and The Sparta Dome (1355 E North Street, Crown Point, IN).
In June 2020 Morris Elite Baseball saw an opportunity to expand and move to Crown Point. “While this has been a very difficult year for many, this year has allowed Morris Elite Baseball to pause and re-evaluate both short-term and long-term success for our organization.” said President and Founder, Bobby Morris.
However, the move to Crown Point was not the only growth opportunity on the table. Said Morris, “During this time we have taken a step forward to the purchase of land in Crown Point’s Sportsplex and are looking forward to being able to serve a much larger base of athletes in the Region. While this may seem like a huge endeavor, it is not all that we are getting ready and excited for.” Morris continued, “We felt that there was a larger opportunity to develop the entire Great Lakes Region and have partnered with 5 Star National and will be known as 5 Star Great Lakes as of Thursday, October 15, 2020. We will still honor our past by proudly representing as the Chiefs. We look forward to continuing to develop athletes within our community and beyond in the years to come.”
5 Star National was established in 1985 and is now owned by Andy Burress. The organization currently has 33 college commitments playing for them, with over 165 college commitments since 2016 and 71 drafted players from 2009-2019.
